Others, their faces, the coldness of a stone, the rustling sounds of leaves, language, and fear. All things are linked, and we are dancing together, with gentle appearances that have gained an insight into something.– Daisuke Morishita “Dance with Blanks” (p.96)
Daisuke Morishita has consistently pursued the purity of photography since his debut in 2005. In recent years, he has become conscious of a blank.
A Blank does not mean emptiness but it functions as a medium that has a possibility to communicate with a reality.
Photography is not used for reproducing a reality and recording.
The purest function of photography is to call in an “unknown thing” in its rectangle blank.
By capturing very common subjects with a sense of abstraction, his works contain a world that might be called a “new reality.”
