Dance with Blanks

Others, their faces, the coldness of a stone, the rustling sounds of leaves, language, and fear. All things are linked, and we are dancing together, with gentle appearances that have gained an insight into something.
– Daisuke Morishita “Dance with Blanks” (p.96)
Daisuke Morishita has consistently pursued the purity of photography since his debut in 2005. In recent years, he has become conscious of a blank.
A Blank does not mean emptiness but it functions as a medium that has a possibility to communicate with a reality.
Photography is not used for reproducing a reality and recording.
The purest function of photography is to call in an “unknown thing” in its rectangle blank.
By capturing very common subjects with a sense of abstraction, his works contain a world that might be called a “new reality.”
